“鎧 平成11年”
鎧はいくさの時、矢や剣などから
身を守るために身につけた。
しかし防御だけではなく
赤の鎧で統一した武田の赤備えなどは
その色を見るだけで敵からおそれられた。
と同時に、装飾的に見ても
素晴しいものだと思う。
日本人は実用品を洗練させていって
美しいものに高めていく能力に
すぐれた民族だと思う。

Armor (1999, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
Armor was put on to protect the body
against arrows and swords during wars,
but it is more than a defense.
Unified in red armors, Takeda's Akazonae (Red Arms)
frightened enemies just by the mere sight of this color,
while it is also terrific from a decorative perspective.
I think Japanese people are good at elevating functional necessities
into sophiscated and beautiful objects.

Les armures étaient portées pour se protéger
des flèches et des coups d'épée pendant la guerre.
Mais l'armure ne servait pas uniquement à cela.
L'armure des Takeda, par exemple,
suffisait à effrayer l'ennemi rien que par sa couleur rouge.
En même temps, elle pouvait aussi être considérée
comme un objet de décoration.
Je pense que les Japonais sont un peuple
qui a une capacité exceptionnelle à raffiner
les objets pratiques et à les rendre beaux.

戰爭時，武士會穿上盔甲以抵禦箭矢和刀劍等攻擊。
然而，甲冑不只具備防衛功能，
像是武田的赤備軍團，全員統一的紅色鎧甲，
讓敵人僅僅是看到這個顏色就感到畏懼。
此外，從裝飾角度來看也十分優秀。
我認為日本人是非常善於將實際使用的物品加以雕琢，
使其變得更精緻美好的民族。

野原へ行くといろんな花や草が
生き生きと歌っている。
きれいだなと思うものをつんで
集めていくと素敵な花束ができてくる。
夢中になってつんでいると
頭の中のモヤモヤも消えていく。
特に女性はつみ草が好きで
それだけで幸福になっていくようだ。

When I walked through the field,
different flowers and herbs were singing vividly.
I picked up those looked beautiful to me.
When I continued to collect them,
a wonderful bouquet was gradually created.
As I got carried away, moody feelings also began to disappear.
It is said that women particularly enjoy picking wildflowers
and will become happier just by doing this.

“校倉 平成5年”
東大寺の正倉院は現存している数少ない高床式の校倉造り。
三角の断面の木を積み上げた壁は美しいだけでなく機能的。まさに用の美といえる。
千年以上もの間、秘宝を守ってきた校倉の壁をイメージした。

Ancient Warehouse (1993, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
The Shōsōin warehouse in Tōdai-ji Temple
is one of the few remaining examples of a raised-floor warehouse
built in the square log architectural style.
The walls, constructed by stacking triangular cross-sectioned logs, are not only beautiful but also functional.
They exemplify the concept of functional beauty.
This pattern is inspired by the walls of the warehouse
that have protected precious treasures for over a thousand years.

Azekura (1993 par Katsuji Wakisaka)
Le Shōsō-in situé au sein du Tōdai-ji
est l’un des derniers bâtiment sur pilotis
à avoir été construit selon la méthode Azekura.
Un mur formé par un empilement de poutres triangulaires
n’est pas seulement beau mais aussi très fonctionnel.
Je peux même dire que c’est la « beauté de l’utile ».
J’ai imaginé ces fameux murs, qui ont protégé des trésors
pendant plus de mille ans.

It is free and unrestricted, without being bound.
I suppose this is what we call "Juo Mujin"

“ふくれ織 平成4年”
布地のある部分を立体的に盛り上げるふくれ織。
二重織の一種で複雑な行程があるようだ。
平らな部分とふくれた部分で模様をつくっていくことで独特の手触りと面白さが表現される。
このデザインは竹を編んだような模様だがふくれ織りを連想させる。

Tactual weaving is a kind of fabric with raised patterns.
It is a type of double weave
which the production process is said to be complicated.
By creating motifs with the flat and quitted parts,
it gives a unique texture and interesting expressions.
This pattern may look like braided bamboo
but it is reminiscent of tactual weaving.

Une texture bouffante qui soulève une certaine partie du tissu en relief.
Une sorte de double tissage résultant d’un processus complexe.
Une texture unique intéressante s’exprimant par un motif

The blade, of course, as well as the handle, guard, and sheath,
are all created with the utmost skill,
and is made with the aim of achieving a high level of spirituality and artistry.

きのこは種類が多い。
まつたけ、しいたけ、なめこ、まいたけ、
えのきだけ、マッシュルーム、
まだまだある。
もともと森や山に自生しているものだが
今は栽培されているものも多い。
色も形も独特で
絵にしても個性的なので
楽しいものになった。

There are many types of mushrooms.
Matsutake mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, nameko mushrooms,
maitake mushrooms, enokidake mushrooms, straw mashrooms
and many more.
They originally grow wild in forests and mountains,
but many are now cultivated.
They are unique in color and shape,
and are fun to draw
because of their individuality.

Geometric pattern is a combination of stripes and checked patterns,
but some may feel the sentiment of Oedo,
and some may perceive it as modern architecture.
I think some people may enjoy looking at the pattern,
and want to try to wear it.

いろんな色の糸を縦に張った中に
別の色を斜めにからめていく。
色が微妙にまじりあって
女性が好きな世界だなあと思う。
糸とか布、織や染、縫物などに
女の人は魅かれるようですね。
昔、糸を紡ぎ、布を織っていたころの
記憶が心の中に眠っているのでしょうか。

Various colored threads are strung vertically,
with other different colors intertwined diagonally.
The colors are subtly blended together,
which I think they formed a world that women like.
Women seem to be attracted to thread, cloth, weaving, dyeing and stitching.
Perhaps memories of when they used to spin thread and
weave cloth lie dormant in their hearts.

その国のあり方や文化を想像させる。
しかし古い時代の文様には
世界に似たものがある。
それらは単純で抽象的な文様で
力強くたくましい。
文様の原点にあたるものだろう。

Some are very unique and
can only be created by certain countries or regions.
Just by looking at the patterns,

in that country and its culture.

They are simple, abstract patterns that are powerful and strong.

“あかつき 昭和51年”
空が序々に明かるさをましている。
真暗だった闇が白みはじめ
オレンジ色の輝きが加わりはじめる。
ふと気がつくと、ついさっきまでの
大空全体の闇は消滅している。
一瞬の出来事だった様な気がする。

The sky is gradually becoming brighter.
The darkness that was pitch-black begins to be brighten by white glows,
and then the orange glows had joined.
Suddenly I realise that the darkness of
the whole sky has vanished.
It feels as if it happened in an instant.

Le ciel s’éclaircie de plus en plus.
Des ténèbres qui blanchissent
commence à apparaître une lueur orange.
Quand soudain, je reprends mes esprits,
l’obscurité de tout le firmament a disparu.
J’ai l’impression que c’est arrivé en un instant.

漆黑的夜空開始泛出魚肚白
接著出現橙色的耀眼光芒
直到前一秒還籠罩天空的黑暗
在我意識到時 已消失殆盡
就像是一瞬間發生的事

令和4年12月21日 水曜日号
“満天の星 昭和53年”
ニューヨークに住んでいたころ
郊外の山の中の友人宅を訪ねた。
夜になって帰ろうと外へ出ると
耳をおおう様な虫の鳴き声と
とても星がいっぱい輝いていて
空が落ちてくるのではないかと思った。
あんな星空はあの夜見たきりだが
ああいうのを満天の星というのだろう。
今でもあの夜の星空は
時々話題にのぼる。

Star-filled Sky (1978, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
When I was living in New York,
I visited a friend's house in the mountains outside the city.
When I went outside to go home at night,
I heard an ear-piercing chirp of insects and
saw so many stars shining brightly,
that made me feel that the sky was going to fall.
I have never seen such a starry sky since that night,
but I guess this is what can be called a "star-filled sky".
Even now, I sometimes talk about that night's starry sky.

Ciel rempli d’étoiles (1978 par Katsuji Wakisaka)
Lorsque j’habitais à New-York,
J’ai visité mon ami qui vivait dans les montagnes alentours.
Le soir venu, en sortant pour rentrer chez moi,
J’ai eu l’impression que le ciel allait me tomber dessus
Tant le chant des insectes était bruyant
et le ciel était constellé d’étoiles.
Plus jamais je n’ai revu un tel ciel nocturne mais
J’imagine que c’est ce qu’on appelle un ciel rempli d’étoiles.
Aujourd’hui encore, je raconte encore de temps en temps
La beauté de cette soirée et de son ciel étoilé.

滿天星斗 (1978, 脇阪 克二)
以前住在紐約時
曾造訪友人位於郊外山中的家
到了夜晚準備回家 走出戶外
耳邊傳來各式各樣的蟲鳴聲
天空閃爍著漫天星星
彷彿要墜落般耀眼
之後我再也沒見過如此絕美的星空
我想那就是所謂的滿天星斗吧
而即使到了現在 也常會聊起
那夜的星空

いつも作品を拝見させていただいています。
自分は北海道の「オンネトー」という湖のキャンプ場で、これぞ「満天の星」と言える星空を観ました。
でも…星が多過ぎて、返って「怖い」くらいでした… (キャンプ場は自分1人しかいなかったので、そのこともあるのかもしれませんが…)その時のことが忘れられず…心に残っています。
これからもたくさん作品を描いてくださいね♪
