“家紋 平成17年”
日本の家紋はセンスがいいし、かっこいいなあと思う。
これ以上出来ないというところまでモチーフを凝縮し単純化している。
その中に美しさ、力強さ、しゃれっ気、遊び心などが息づいている。
ひとつひとつの家紋が個性的で自己主張が強い家紋柄では
その雰囲気だけもらって形は単純な幾何柄を組合わせて模様にしてみた。

Family Crest (2005, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
I think Japanese family crests' designs are cool and have good sense.
The motifs are condensed and simplified to the point where no more can be done.
Beauty, strength, stylishness and a playful spirit are all present in this.
Each family crest is unique and assertive,
so I took only the atmosphere of the family crest,
and combine different simple geometric shapes to create this pattern.

Je trouve que les sceaux familiaux japonais sont très stylés.
Leurs motifs sont condensés et simplifiés jusqu’à la limite du possible.
Ils représentent la beauté, la force, la classe ou encore la gaieté.
Chaque sceau est unique, véhiculant un trait de caractère propre à sa maison.
En m’inspirant de ces caractéristiques, j’ai créé un design reprenant des motifs
simplifiés que j’ai assemblé les uns aux autres.

表面を飾った小筥
お気に入りの筥を
たくさん集めている人もいますね

A small box that makes you want to put in
something precious and important.
A small box that makes you want to put in small but wonderful gifts,
and gently hand it over to someone.
Small boxes adorned with polka dots, stripes,
or checkerboard patterns on its surface.
There are also people who love collecting
many boxes that they like.

Une petite boîte qui donne envie
d’y ranger ses trésors.
D’y insérer un merveilleux petit cadeau
et de la remettre à quelqu’un tout en douceur.
Qu’elle soit décorée à l’extérieur
avec des pois, des rayures,
ou bien des motifs à carreaux,
beaucoup de personnes
les collectionnent.

“野の花 平成17年”
野原にいくと
いろんな野の花が咲き乱れている。
黄や白やブルーなどの小さな花達が
こっちを見て見てといっている様だ。
草の上にボンヤリと坐って
木々をながめながらお弁当を食べていると
日々の生活の中で忘れていた
何かがよみがえってくる。

Wild Flowers (2005, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
When going to the fields,
there are all kinds of wild flowers in full bloom.
Yellow, white, blue and other small flowers,
seem saying "Look at me, look at me!" and seeking someone's attention.
Sitting on the grass aimlessly,
looking at the trees and having my lunch,
something that I have forgotten in my daily life
comes back to me.

En allant à la campagne,
J’ai vu des fleurs sauvages fleurir à profusion.
De petites fleurs multicolores,
qui m’accaparaient le regard à chaque seconde.
Assis sur l’herbe,
J’ai déjeuné en regardant les arbres.
J’en oubliais mon quotidien.
Quelque chose était en train de revivre en moi.

“紅梅白梅 平成17年”
天に向かって枝がまっすぐ伸びていて、すがすがしい。
その枝に紅や白の、花や蕾が歯切れよく並んでいる。
梅は冬の寒さの中で清く潔く咲き、凛として美しい。

The branches grow straight up towards the sky and they look very refreshing.
Red and white flowers and their buds are arranged nicely and vigorously on the branches.
Plum trees bloom cleanly and gracefully in the cold of winter, dignified and beautiful.

Pointées vers le ciel, ses branches s’étendent toutes droites.
Quel spectacle rafraichissant!
Sur ses branches, des fleurs et des bourgeons rouges et blancs
sont remarquablement alignées.
Les pruniers, fleurissant plein de vigueur en plein coeur de l’hiver,
sont l’image même de la beauté.

“雨戸 平成17年”
今はあまり見なくなったが
木製の雨戸があって
寝る時には引き出して
家のまわりをおおっていた。
家が傷まないようにするためのものなので
雨戸自体には雨があたる。
色があせて表面がボロボロになって
味わい深い木の表情が出てくる。

Shutters (2005, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
I don't see many wooden shutters these day.
We usually pull them out when we went to bed.
Shutters are used to cover the area around the house.
The purpose of them is to protect the house from damage,
while shutters themselves are exposed to the rain.
The color fades and the surface becomes tattered, giving the wood a rich flavored expression.

De plus en plus rare aujourd’hui,
Il existe encore des volets en bois,
Que l’on ouvre la nuit tombée,
Pour aérer la maison.
Comme ils protègent la maison,
Ils sont directement en contact avec la pluie.
Ils perdent de leurs couleurs et s’usent avec le temps,
laissant ressortir la saveur et la profondeur du bois.

擋雨窗 (2005, 脇阪 克二)
現在幾乎很少看到木製擋雨窗，
我們家會在睡前拉出擋雨窗，
將家的四周完全遮蓋好。
擋雨窗是為了保護房屋不受到外在的傷害，
但自身卻默默承受著雨水，
顏色和表面因剝落而變得斑駁，
但反而展現了木頭更具韻味深度的迷人樣貌。

“禅 平成17年”
禅の世界においては
丸は 宇宙に存在する全てのものや
絶対的な真理を表し
三角は足を組んで座禅するときの
仏と一体となった姿を表わし
四角は社会の常識という四角い枠に
とらわれて生きている姿を
表わしている
その四角い世界を抜け出し
仏の世界と一体となることで
真理に近づくことを
丸、三角、四角は表しているようです

In the world of zen…
Circle is everything that exists in the universe
and represents absolute truth;
Triangle represents the image of being at one
with the Buddha when sitting cross-legged
in meditation.
Square is a rectangular frame of social
common sense and the way we live our lives.
Circles, triangles, squares seem to represent
breaking out of that square world and
becoming one with the world of the Buddha,
to come closer to the truth.

Dans le monde du Zen,
Le cercle représente tout ce qui existe dans l’univers
Ou bien la vérité absolue
Le triangle est la forme des jambes croisées lors de la médiation
Et ne faire qu’un avec Bouddha
Le carré nous montre le cadre du bon sens en société
Dans lequel on vit prisonnier
Toutes ces formes semblent indiquer que,
En sortant des sentiers battus,
en intégrant le monde de Bouddha
On se rapproche de la vérité.

like the cocoon of a silkworm.
They connect together and become a
beautiful and graceful lace shaped pattern.
You could feel soft and gentle in this textile design.

“竜田川 平成17年”
昔から和歌に詠まれる紅葉の名所。
流水に紅葉の葉を散らした模様の名でもある。
いにしえの情緒を残しながら
ポップにすることに苦労した。

Tatsuta River (2005,by Katsuji Wakisaka)
Tatsuta Riverin Nara Prefecture is a scenic spot to enjoy the scarlet maple leaves, which can be found in some Waka poems.
「Tatsuta River」 is also known as a pattern of autumn red leaves flowing along the river.
I tried hard to draw the Tatsuta River in a modern way while kepping its nostalgic feeling.

Il s’agit d’un lieu connu pour ses feuilles d’automne,
souvent décrit dans les anciennes poésies waka.
Il s’agit également du nom d’un motif pour décrire
les feuilles rouges d’érables portées par les courants d’eau.
Que de difficultés pour trouver le bon équilibre entre l’essence
historique du motif et un coté pop contemporain.

龍田川，是一條位於奈良縣的河川，
其紅葉美景，被古人詠誦於和歌。
龍田川也是一種傳統紋樣的名稱，
一般描繪著紅葉在落水中飄然而下。
我努力保留其復古韻味，
用現代的風格詮釋龍田川。

澄んだ清らかな水の流れを見ると
人はホッとし癒される。
じっと坐って絶えまなく流れる水音に耳をすませ
そのうねりに身を任せていると心が休まってくる。
そんな時間をもっと持ちたいですね。

仲良く並んでいたり
ひとりポツンと離れていたり。
みんな小さな口を精一杯あけて
夢中になって歌っている。

森の中に入るといろんな音が聞こえてくる。
小鳥がさえずり、大きな鳥もひと声鳴いてバタバタと飛んでいく。
足元では落葉がカサカサカサ。
風が吹くとザワザワと木々がゆれる。
お日さまが出ると、こもれびがきらきらと輝き、あいさつし合っている。
森の中ではいろんなお話が聞こえてくる。

Listen, there are little talks in the forest.
Little birds chatters, tweet, tweet;
Big birds cackles, flapping their wings and fly away.
Stepping on the fallen leaves, crunch, crunch;
Branches of trees, murmuring in the wind.
Sun beams streamed through the leaves, flickering lights greetings to each other.
Listen, there are interesting talks in the forest!

Quand on rentre dans une forêt, on entend une multitude de sons.
De petits oiseaux chantent, alors que de grands oiseaux s’envolent en croassant.
Le bruissement des feuilles sur lesquelles on marche.
Lorsque le vent se lève, les arbres s’agitent de tout leur long.
Lorsque le soleil se lève, les rayons de soleil nous saluent en transperçant les feuilles.
Quand on rentre dans une forêt, on entend une multitude d’histoires.

菊に水の流れという昔からある
日本の模様をシンプルに、
そして色を新しくして表現した。
昔からの模様にはいいものがいっぱいある。
それをどう生かしていくかが課題だ。

Chrysanthemum with stream is a traditional pattern in Japan.
I painted it in a simple way but with new color arrangement.
There are numerous fantastic old pattern, into which we should inject new life.

J’ai simplifié et recoloré l’ancien motif japonisant
appelé kikusui, qui renvoie au courant de l’eau sur
les chrysanthèmes japonais.
Il existe de très nombreux jolis motifs d’antan.
La question est de savoir comment les transcender.

“疏水 平成17年”
毎朝散歩する南禅寺界隈は疏水がいたるところにあり、
流れにそった道を歩いているとせせらぎが
胸にひびいていくる。このあたりの別荘も
疏水からの水で庭に流れをつくり池をつくっている。
この疏水は琵琶湖からトンネルをくぐり
水道橋を渡ってきて京都の町を潤している。

I take a walk around Nanzenji temple every morning.
There is a small canal flows along.
Murmur of the stream, sounds like a song.
Houses around there, people make a pond or water situated in their garden.
This canal flowing through elevated aqueduct, providing Kyoto with water from Lake Biwa.

Dans l’enceinte du Nanzenji, où je me promène
tous les matins, se trouve un petit canal.
Lorsque je marche sur le chemin le longeant,
Son courant résonne en moi, tel un chant.
Le canal alimente également les jardins et les étangs
des maisons des alentours.
Ce courant vient directement du lac Biwa, via un tunnel

“爛漫 平成17年”
桜は日本の国花。
朝によく、夕によく、降ってよく、
嵐にも又あわれが深い。
満開のころは色彩的な喜びに満ち満ちており、
日常の世界を忘れて浮き浮きした
気持ちにいざなう。まさに春爛漫。

"Ranman / Full blossom"（2005,by Katsuji Wakisaka）
The cherry blossom or Sakura is considered the national flower of Japan.
They are burning bright,
From dawn to dusk, all day long.
The petal falls free, snowing down on your face.
Sakura blooms, blooms, to their fullest.
Then become a cherry blossom blizzard.
When they comes into full bloom,
Branches become soft petal clouds,
Colorfully painted, full of joy.
It feels like a dreamland, that make you forget reality.
Spring is in full bloom.

Le cerisier est l’emblème du Japon.
Brilliant de mille feux, du matin jusqu'au soir,
qu'il pleuve ou qu'il vente.
En pleine floraison, ses branches se drapent
de nuages de pétales colorés, teintées de joie.
Il vous fait oublier la vie quotidienne
pour vous plonger dans un monde de merveille.
Le printemps dans toute sa splendeur.

小さい花が並んでいる模様は
とてもかわいいものだが
今まではあまりつくっていない。
色とりどりの小さい菊を
ふつうに並べてみた。
テキスタイルデザインはこういう
何でもない模様が多く
人に好まれるものだが……。

“気球散歩 平成17年”
まあるい気球に乗って
大空の散歩に行こう。
森をこえ山をこえ
川に沿って進んでいく。
野原に出ると
緑の中に放牧されている
人や牛の姿が小さく見える。
楽しいし、とても気持がいいだろうなあ。
