"Textile Name:Okayu festival at Shimogamo shrine"

Okayu festival is an event at 15th January (lunar new year) to pray for the productiveness of grain and peace and security of nations.
After the ritual, we can have okayu (rice-porridge) which contains adzuki and mochi (a sticky rice cake)from the shrine. It is believed that this okayu gets rid of evil for the year and purge away all kind of disease from us.

January's seasonal confection of Kyoto is inspired by azuki-gayu which we can have at okayu festival. That is made of domyozi-ko, consisting of sticky rice steamed and dried out, mixed with sugar glazed adzuki beans. Kanten covering on this includes sweetened bean paste of Ubatama ,which is representative confection of Kameya Yoshinaga.
