"Textile Name:Yasurai festival at Imamiya shrine"

The season when cherry blossom was falling in Heian period,
as an epidemic prevailed, this festival was started in the hope of abating it.
Ujiko (shrine parishioners) are jumping and dancing to accompany of Japanese gongs and drums around the big red umbrella decorated with fresh flowers.
It is believed they are protected against bad lucks under the umbrella, so people compete to rush into there. Everyone can be unified and enjoy it.

April's drawing is "Yasurai festival" at Imamiya shrine where is famous for cherry blossoms. In this season, sakura-mochi, a rice cake filled with sweetened bean paste and wrapped in a pickled cherry leaf, hit the shelves of wagashi store. The taste and shape of it are different between Kansai and Kanto region. Compared to these sakura-mochi, sweet bean paste wrapped in a crape in Kanto region whereas it is rolled up into lumpy mochi made of domyoji-ko, made from Japanese sticky rice, in Kansai region.
April's seasonal confections of Kyoto are made in the image of pretty version of Kansai's sakura-mochi.
