This year's theme is "Water"We combine "Tsukinami-e" which is a painting of each season or seasonal events and monthly wagashi, seasonal confection of Kyoto, using best ingredients in that season together. Please enjoy it feeling the seasons of Kyoto at Japanese tea space in SOU・SOU KYOTO Aoyama store.

The water of the pond is frozen.
The sharp cracks on its surface
Makes us feel even colder.
One of them is the Uguisu Mochi, inspired by the nightingale which is seen as the harbinger of spring. The traditional Uguisu Mochi, made with Japanese sticky rice cake wrapping white sweet bean paste and sprinkled with bean powder. It is even said that Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the great unifier of Japan, was very fond of it.
We inserted modern elements in order to come up with an improved Uguisu Mochi. To ameliorate its taste, we added in meringue to the mochi and mixed soybean powder, fresh cream, white chocolate and cashews with the white bean paste.The modern Uguisu Mochi contains ingredients like nuts and chocolate, which were near impossible to find in ancient times.
The other confection represent the theme of “Blooming Ume (plum blossom) in February”. It is stuffed with the sweet and sour plum jam and kelp, a perfect match, mixed into the white bean paste, and coated with agar-agar with a plum on top of it.
We serve a cup of green matcha tea (or choice of coffee) and our wagashi based on our textile design.

The KAMEYA YOSHINAGA store descended from the famous confectionary Kameya Yoshian, that has the reputation of being one of the best Kyoto gourmet locales and it's fame reaches back to the Edo period when the store was first opened in 1803. Since then they've been in business in Sijo Samegai area in Kyoto till now. The owner of the store is the 8th generation.
