April's textile designTairyō-bata / Fisherman’s flag

Tairyō-bata, literally translated as “big catch flag”, originally flown by boats that return to port with big catches.
They typically involving bright colors, so that it can be seen at sea.
The words "Big Fish " and "Celebration" in Chinese characters are written on them.
They also represent the pattern of sunrise, fish, Ebisu (God of development) and takarabune (treasure ship).
Tairyō-bata is a richly-colored and energetic design,
born of the strong hope that fishermen will be blessed with abundant catches.

About April's wagashi

April's textile design is about Tairyō-bata / Fisherman’s flag.
We offer a unique monaka (wagashi made of red bean paste filling sandwiched between two thin crisp wafers made from mochi), which shaped like a bouncing sea bream fish.
The wafers are colored in red by natural pigment. On the inward side of them, we give a rich chocolate taste by coating a layer of cherry blossom flavor white chocolates.

Instead of the traditional bean paste that filled inside of monaka, we offer a Kansai-style sakuramochi as a paste. Sakuramochi is a sweet pink-colored rice cake wrapped with in red bean paste center, and pickled cherry blossom leaf. Different regions of Japan have different styles, and our sakuramochi is based on the Kansai-style, that uses dōmyōji(glutinous rice flour), and filled with a white bean paste which mixed with salted sakura.
The cherry blossom flavor chocolate wafers matches very well with the sticky texture of sakuramochi. Please enjoy the unique texture and taste of our April's wagashi, and hope you a refreshing SOU・SOU style springtime!
