SOU・SOU contributed costumes for parts of the film “Golden Kamuy,” which was released nationwide on January 19, 2024 (Friday).
Set in Hokkaido at the end of the Meiji era, the story follows Saichi Sugimoto, a former soldier known as “Immortal Sugimoto,” who learns of a vast stash of gold stolen from the Ainu people. After surviving a wild bear attack, he is rescued by an Ainu girl named Asirpa, whose father was killed by the man who stole the gold. Sugimoto, seeking the treasure, and Asirpa, determined to avenge her father, join forces on their journey.
Meanwhile, others are also after the gold — Lieutenant Tokushirō Tsurumi of the 7th Division of the Imperial Japanese Army, who schemes to conquer Hokkaido, and Toshizō Hijikata, the legendary “Demon Vice-Commander” of the Shinsengumi, long thought dead, who pursues the treasure to fulfill his own ambitions.
With powerful action scenes, profound psychological drama, and breathtaking depictions of nature and Ainu culture, the film invites audiences on a grand adventure that transcends time. Don’t miss it on the big screen.
