9th Sept: The Chōyō Festival
The Chōyō Festival is also known as the ‘Chrysanthemum Festival’ because chrysanthemums are used to pray for eternal youth and longevity.
During the Heian period, this was known as "Kisewata" (chrysanthemum cotton). It was a custom to cover chrysanthemum flowers with raw cotton on the preceding day, 8th Sept, and then, the following morning, to press the cotton—moistened by the dew—against one’s face to pray for good health and freedom from illness. At SOU・SOU, we have created "Kisewata Stickers & Picture Postcards" featuring chrysanthemums and cotton, so that you can enjoy these Japanese festivals in a relaxed way. Please display them wherever you like and enjoy the seasonal atmosphere.
