What is "Kyoto Ainasen"? Japanese people have been wearing indigo since the Edo period. By the early Meiji era, it was known as Japan Blue, becoming a colour representative of Japan. While immersion dyeing was the mainstream indigo dyeing technique,‘Ainasen’ – a method of applying patterns by hand using natural indigo as the raw material – was the world's first dyeing technique developed by Fujitasenen. Please enjoy the taste of the genuine indigo blue and the natural color fading. ・It is a scarf made of a soft handkerchief fabric called "Isemomen cotton". It can be used for air conditioning room in summer as well as cold weather in winter. ※This product is made of Isemomen cotton. Depending on the color, fluff may be noticeable, but it is a feature of the material. ※Pattern placement of this textile design product differs from one another due to the manufacturing process. Customers cannot specify the print. ※Since we are using raw white Isemomen cotton without bleaching, the fabric is in its natural color. The black spots on the fabric surface are plant fragments that cannot be avoided during the production process. 【Characteristics and Care Instructions for Natural Indigo】 Natural indigo dyeing fixes the colour through repeated oxidation and alkalisation, but a small amount of incompletely oxidised material may remain. This component produces the deep, soft hues characteristic of indigo dye, but when worn in hot, humid conditions, it may cause colour bleeding or brown/yellow stains to appear. There may be some neps (knots in the fabric), as it is sewn by traditional sewing machine. Due to the nature of Kyoto Stencil Yuzen (hand-printed) , there are unevenness of dyeing on the edge of the fabric as shown in the photo. Occasionally, uneven dyeing may be observed at the fabric edges. This is known as “hanging marks”, characteristic of Ainasen dyeing, arising during the “box steaming” process where the fabric is suspended within a box for steaming. ※Products with the same color name may vary slightly in color due to different materials.
