花を様式化し 家紋のようにして
霰（市松模様）の上に配置。
単純な文様だが
高貴で各式がありそうな
ふんいきになった。

Leis are given in Hawaii
as a token of gratitude and respect.
These gorgeous, radiant and beautiful flower necklaces
seem to have originated from
the ancient Hawaiian belief in nature worship.
These simple, pretty flowers,
make up the beauty of leis.

まわりを海に囲まれた小さな島に
暮らしているのはどんな感じがするのだろうか。
毎日海をながめて過ごしていると
解放感がいっぱいなのだろうか。
それともどこへ行くのも船にのって
行かねばならず
とじこめられた感じがするのだろうか。
瀬戸内のゆったりした海に
点々と島がならんでいるのを見ると
のどかでしあわせそうな光景が
浮んでくるのだが…。

What is it like to live on a small island
surrounded by the sea?
Does it feel liberating to spend the days
gazing out at the ocean?
Or do people feel confined or shut in
because they have to take a boat to go anywhere they want to go?
Though when I look at the islands lining up
on the calm waters of the Seto Inland Sea,
it seems to be a peaceful and happy scene...

線で描いた格子の中にグレイや赤を入れてみる。
不思議なことにある透明感が出てきて、ガラスのような感じがする。
それでビードロ格子と名付けた。

Try adding grey and red to the grid drawn with lines.
Strangely enough, a certain transparency comes out, and it looks like glass.

鳥居をくぐり宇治橋にさしかかる。
五十鈴川の水は清らかに静かに流れていく。
橋から見る山々はたおやかに
木々が茂り ゆったりとした姿を見せている。
神宮の森はひっそりとしたたたずまいを見せ
この川を渡ると聖域に入るのだという想いがわいてくる。

Passing through the tori-i gateway and come to the Uji Bridge.
The water of Isuzu river is clear and flows quietly.
I can see the gentle mountains and
the lovely dense brushwood from the bridge.
The forest of the shrine is quiet and peaceful.
It feels like I have entered a sanctuary when I crossed the river.

Passez la porte Torii et approchez-vous du pont Uji.
L’eau de la rivière Isuzu coule, pure et tranquille.
Les montagnes vues de là paraissent gracieuses
et les troncs des arbres épais et spacieux.
Une fois la rivière traversée,
la forêt calme du sanctuaire me donne l’impression
d’entrer dans un lieu sacré.

The rice paddies in the field have changed color,
the ears have formed and leaning heavily.
They formed an endlessly golden world
as far as the eye can reach.
A season filled with the joy of
harvesting what has been cultivated all year.
Autumn is the blessed and grateful season,
when rice, wheat, soy beans, azuki beans and millet
are harvested as staple foods,
nourishing and providing us
with the most rewarding harvest of all.

La couleur des rizières a changé
et les épis de riz penchés
forment un monde doré à perte de vue.
Une saison remplie par la joie de récolter

編むという行為が女性は好きですね。
無意識に手を動かしながら、
心の中でいろいろな会話をしているのでしょうね。
十字模様を編みこんでいくと、縄梯子のようなものになりました。

while unconsciously moving their hands.

新緑のころ、大きな木の蔭に入って見あげると
木の葉が重なりあって
木もれ陽がまぶしく目にとびこんできます。
足元にはその影が木の葉の重なりを描いています。
そんな感じをシンプルな葉っぱで表現しました。

When I walked into the shade of large trees in the fresh green season,
the leaves were overlapping each other
and the sun is shinning brightly through the trees.
The overlapping leaves drew a leafy shade on my feet.
I depicted this feeling in an image of simple leaves.

じゃがいもを半分に切って、彫刻刀でほる。
そしてインクをつけて紙に押すと
いもばんが出来る。
じゃがいもはやわらかいし
彫りやすく誰でも出来る。
ただ長くは使えない。
でも原始的な面白さがあってとてもいい。

Imoban - Potato Stamp (2003, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
Cut a potato in half and engrave it with a carving knife.
Dip it in ink and press it on the paper,
so you can make a imoban.
Potatoes are soft and easy to engrave,
anyone can make a imoban.
However, tt can’t last long.
It is still very interesting and primitive.

Coupez une patate en deux et
sculptez des formes à l’aide d’une lame.
Appliquez-y de l’encre et tamponnez sur du papier
pour obtenir ce qu’on appelle un Imoban.
Comme la chair de la patate est tendre,
il est facile pour n’importe qui de la ciseler.
Toutefois, on ne peut pas l’utiliser longtemps.
Pourtant, c’est très simple et très satisfaisant.

コップに注ぐとジュワーッといって
気泡が立ちのぼっていく。
飲むと泡が刺激するのか
口の中やのどがすっきりする。
見ていてもブクブクと泡だっていて
さわやかな感じがする。
最高の炭酸水はシャンパンだと思う。

When poured into a cup,
the bubbles rise up.
When you drink it,
the bubbles stimulate and
refresh your mouth and throat.
It is refreshing to look at the bubbles swelling up.
To me, the best sparkling water is champagne.

reflects the sun's rays and shines.
