“家紋と一文字 平成18年”
日本を象徴する花、桜と菊をモチーフにして
SOU・SOUの家紋を作りました。
普通はひとつのモチーフで作られているのですが、
あえて2つを組み合わせてみました。

SOU・SOU crest is created
by using the motifs of cherry blossom and chrysanthemum,
the symbolic flowers of Japan.
Although crests usually consist of one motif,
I deliberately used a combination of two.

“蚊帳 平成18年”
無地の様な模様であってもイメージがほしい。
これは細かい格子なのだが
少しざっくりした糸で織ったガーゼとか
蚊帳の様なやわらかい感じを出したかった。

I want to have an image even if the pattern is like a plain pattern.
It looks like a fine grid pattern,
but I wanted to create a soft feeling like gauze
woven with slightly rough threads or a mosquito net.

Je veux créer une image même si c’est à partir d’un motif uni.
Une grille fine formée par de la gaze tissée avec
des fils légèrement grossiers
permettant d’obtenir cette sensation douce comme avec une moustiquaire.

“縞がさね 平成18年”
無心になって線を引いていく。等間隔にひいていくと縞になる。
あるところまで来ると少し間を空けた線をひいていくと別の縞が出来る。
そして又、違った縞が出来、縞がさねとなった。

Layered Stripes (2006, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
I draw lines without thinking anything.
If the lines are drawn at equal intervals, they will form stripes.
When I get to a certain point, I start to draw lines with less space in between,
and another striped pattern is formed.
By repeating this, new stripes are formed and they become the layered-stripes.

Rayures à répétition (2006 par Katsuji Wakisaka)
Après avoir fait le vide, je trace un trait.
À intervalles réguliers, ces traits deviennent des rayures.
Au bout d’un certain moment, je trace des traits avec un espacement
un peu plus grand, résultant en un type de rayure différent.
Puis une autre, puis une autre… Des rayures à répétition.

以相同間距持續描繪 漸漸成了條紋圖案
畫到某處 稍微將空隙加大
又成了不同的條紋

“文様あそび 平成18年”
日本の家紋を見ていくとふっと目をひく紋があり、
それを描いてみる。
縞や市松などを加えて一枚の絵にしていく。
そんな絵がたくさん出来た時、
何げなく並べてみたら思いがけず
面白かったのがこの文様あそび。

When looking at Japanese family crests,
there are crests that suddenly catch my eye and I try to draw them.
I combine them with stripes, checkers, etc. to make a drawing.
When many such drawings were created,
I casually arranged them in a row and
found it became a playful pattern unexpectedly.

Quand je regarde des sceaux familiaux japonais,
il m’arrive d’en trouver un qui accroche mon regard
et que je décide alors de dessiner.
En y rajoutant des franges ou des damiers,
j’en arrive à un dessin final.
Ce design de jeu de motifs
est le savant mélange d’une multitude de ces dessins.

“人”－まっすぐな人、よこしまな人、とがった人、まるい人
人の性格は様々。肌の色も様々。
色々な人が集まっているイメージを表現した。

“阿弥陀 平成18年”
あみだくじは室町時代から
行われていたが
現在のような形と違い
真中から外へ向かって放射線状に
線を引いて くじを作った
その形が阿弥陀如来の
後光に似ているので
「あみだ」と呼ばれるようになった

The Amida lottery (ghostleg lottery)
has been played since the Muromachi period,
but it’s shape was not the same as today.
It was made by drawing lines
from the centre outwards in a radial pattern.
As the shape resembles the halo of Amida Buddha,
it became known as "Amida".

阿彌陀籤 (2006, 脇阪 克二)
阿弥陀籤是從室町時代開始出現的一種抽籤方式。
與現在的梯子狀圖形不同，
當時是從中央一點向外畫出放射線抽籤。
彷彿如來佛身後的光芒，
因此稱為「阿彌陀籤」。

門をくぐると苔につつまれた敷石が不規則に
しかしある秩序を持って配置されている。
この絶妙な配置こそが日本らしい美しさだと思う。

As I passed through the gate,
I saw paving stones covered with moss, irregularly placed in the garden.
However, they are arranged with a certain order.

ひらひらと舞い降りてくる雪は白く淡く一瞬にして消えていく。
実はそのひとつひとつの雪は花のように美しい雪結晶でできている。

The snow fluttering down in flakes are white and pale and disappear in an instant.
In fact, each snowflake is made up of beautiful crytals that look like flowers.

真白い砂の上を竹の熊手でゆっくり
しかし力強く刷け目をつけていく修行僧。
まっすぐにそしてまるく石をとりかこむように。
やがてそれは水の流れとなって
庭全体に広がっていく。

Karesansui (Dry landscape garden) (2006, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
The ascetic monk uses a bamboo rake giving appearance of water features among the white sand, slowly but with strength.
Continuously creating straight and curved pattern to resemble rivers passing through mountains that expressed by stones.
Eventually, the gravel river flows
spreading over the entire garden.

Lentement fait le moine sur le sable blanc avec un râteau en bambou, mais puissamment sur l’argile blanche laisse les traces.

以白砂和石頭展現自然之美的日本禪宗庭園。
修行僧用竹耙在純白砂上緩慢卻有力地，
創作出美麗紋路。
先作出直線，接著環繞石頭繪出圓弧，
讓白砂宛如流水般，
漸漸擴散至整個庭園。

庭に面した部屋の壁につくられた明かり窓。
花の形に明けられた窓の障子をあけると
一幅の絵のような庭が見える。

部屋を暖かく居心地のいいものにしてくれる。

A daylight window, on a wall of a room facing a garden.
If you open the flower-shapen shoji, a sash-window made of paper and wood,
the scene of a pictorial garden comes in your sight.
Even the time you close the window,
its lovely shape and the soft sunlight coming through the shoji
makes the room warm and comfortable.

Lucarne construite dans la pièce face au jardin.
En ouvrant ses volets en forme de fleur,
le jardin nous apparait comme un tableau.

I suppose that's the reason why it is not a familiar motif.

This is a copy of my favorate Korin chrysanthemum, a pattern of the Rimpa School.
Beauty and fragrance of chrysanthemum are expressed by a boldly omission and delicate description.
I do admire thoes Rimpa artists including Koetsu HONAMI, Sotatu TAWARAYA, Korin OGATA and Kenzan OGATA.

Shiba, means green grass.

Time passes slowly in that relaxed atmosphere.

桜は三分咲き、五分咲き、満開とどの瞬間も美しい。
しかしそれにもまして魅力的なのは散っていくとき。
いさぎよく散る姿にもののあわれを感じ、
自分の人生を重ね合わせる。
夜桜がひらひらと舞い散る姿には
妖艶さも加わり一段と美しい。

The lovely, amorous cherry blossom lady,
Beautiful in youth, and comely at all periods of life.
She burst into bloom, come into full blossom, and gracefully fall in her most fascinating time.
I always associate her falling with my life.

Qu'elles soient fleuries partiellement, à moitié ou totalement,
les fleurs de cerisiers sont splendides.
Mais le plus beau spectable reste quand leurs pétales tombent.
À leur vue, une compassion gracieuse nous envahit,
se superposant à nos propres vies.
Il y a quelque chose d’ensorcelant dans ces cerisiers nocturnes
qui se répandent en dansant, les rendant encore plus magnifiques.

Les chrysanthèmes sauvages ne sont pas tape-à-l'œil mais il existe chez elles une simplicité et une élégance. En se fondant dans les plaines, Elles s'enracinent fermement, accompagnées des rayons du soleil et de l'odeur de terre.

脇坂さんが描くテキスタイルデザインは、＂味わい深く感慨深さ＂を感じさせるものも多くあるように感じています。
この「蚊帳」は昨秋、衿巻ジバンをHPで観ていた時に初めて目にして、画面から受けた印象は＂とてつもない繊細さ＂と＂無限な集中力＂を感じ、早々に買い求めた逸品です。
私の印象と反して脇坂さんは意外と「簡単にささっと描けたよ！」と仰るかもしれませんが…(^^)
単に＂格子＂を描いたものとの事ですが、脇坂さんのコメントにありますように＂やわらかさ＂に溢れ＂無機質さ＂を一切感じさせない色々なアイテムに合うデザインかなぁと思っています♪
