It has been designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property and a Traditional Craft of Japan. From pattern making to finishing the bolt of fabric, the process involves as many as 30 steps, each requiring skilled craftsmanship and experience. As a result, it takes approximately two months to complete a single bolt of fabric.
Born from great effort and patience, Kurume Kasuri is widely loved for its simple, rustic beauty. It is used not only for kimono, but also in a variety of forms such as interior items and accessories.
