“線香花火 平成18年”
暑い夏の日も暮れて夕闇が濃くなってくる。
風呂上がりに浴衣を着て庭に出る。
手に持った花部に火をつけると
パチパチ火花がはじけてまわりを照らす。
最後はいつも線香花火。
小さな火花がチカチカ燃えて
静かに消えてゆく。

Sparklers / Senko hanabi (2006, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
The hot summer day is drawing to a close, and the twilight merged into darkness.
After taking a bath, I put on my yukata and go out into the garden.
When I light a firework in my hand, sparks burst and light up the surroundings.
The last one is always a senko hanabi.
The tiny sparks flickeringly burn
and then quietly fade away.

Même les soirs d’été quand le soleil se couche, tout s’assombrit.
Après le bain, je mets mon yukata et sors dans le jardin.
J’allume le petit feu d’artifice que je tiens dans ma main
et des étincelles jaillissent en éclairant autour de moi.
Le grand final, c’est le senkō hanabi.
De toutes petites étincelles crépitent
en disparaissant dans un silence profond.

いろんな細かい模様があり表情がある。
長年、風雪に耐えて
つくりあげられてきた風格を感じる。

If you look at the surface of a tree trunk
there are all kinds of fine patterns and expressions.
I can feel that it has been built
through the prolonged weathering.
Though trees do not say anything,
they have lived for a long time
and show their characters in a murmur.

“通り雨 平成11年”
今日はいいお天気だなぁと出かけてきたが
だんだん雲行きがあやしくなり、
大粒の雨が降り出してきた。
あわてて軒先へとびこみ
雨粒がはげしく落ちてくるのを見ている。
しばらくすると向うの空が明るくなってきて
うそのようにやんでしまった。
そしてまた太陽が顔を出してきた。

It was a beautiful day when I went out,
but the sky were getting darker and darker
and it started to rain like cats and dogs.
I rushed into the eaves of the house and
watched the raindrops falling heavily.
After a while, the sky became brighter and brighter,
and it stopped suddenly as if by magic.
Then the sun came out again.

Je suis sorti en me disant que le temps était splendide mais
Des nuages noirs pointent le bout de leur nez
et de grosses gouttes commencent à tomber.
Je me dépêche de trouver un porche pour m’abriter
Pour regarder la pluie tomber furieusement.
Quelques minutes plus tard, le ciel s’éclaircit
Et la pluie cesse, comme si de rien n’était.
Le soleil nous éblouie à nouveau de ses rayons.

小さな花が多いが形や色は微妙に違い

When going out into the field,
we are greeted with different kinds of flowers and greenery.
There are many tiny little flowers but their shape and color vary slightly,
you'll never find the same one.
Each of them grows with the blessings of the sun and water
shines in its own way.

Rural Woodland (1994, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
Sunlight filtering down pleasantly through the trees
in the woodland, the pathway continues and
surrounded by lively green grasses.
Leaves and nuts of various shapes
are a feast for the eyes.
You might even find mushrooms and
edible wild plants if your are lucky.
Feeling relieved and free,
relax and become energetic.

It is a combination of just flowers and stripes
but the silhouettes of the flowers
look like some floating shadows in this pattern.
A brand new feeling is brought out
by further elaborating on an expression,
I think it is the interesting part of drawing patterns.

“じどうしゃ 令和元年”
子供のころから自動車が好きだった
乗ることより形に魅きつけられていた
フィンランドに住んでいた
1960～70年代には
昔のフランスやイタリア
又、東欧やロシアの車も走っていて
それぞれの形に独自性があり
いっそう魅かれていった
その国の文化がそれぞれの形を
作り出していて
見ているだけで楽しかった
今はどこの国の車も
似たような形になってきて
昔のように僕をワクワク
させてくれなくなった

I've loved cars since I was small.
I was fascinated by their shapes rather than having a ride on them.
When I lived in Finland
in the 60s to 70s,
I was attracted by the uniqueness in shape
of French, Italian, Eastern Europe and
Russian made old-fashioned cars
that still running on the road.
It was fun to just look at them
and see the peculiarities of each culture.
Cars nowadays look more or less the same
even they are made from different countries.
They don't excite me as much as
they used to.

J’aime les voitures depuis que je suis petit.
J’ai été attiré plus par leurs formes que leurs mouvements.
Quand j’habitais en Finlande dans les années 60-70, il y avait de vieilles voitures françaises, italiennes, scandinaves et russes.
Chacune avait sa forme propre, si élégante.
C’était divertissant de simplement les regarder et d’y voir les particularités de chaque culture.
Les voitures d’aujourd’hui se ressemblent plus ou moins, me laissant complètement indifférent en comparaison d’autrefois.

我1960～70年代曾在芬蘭生活，
北歐的公路上馳騁著各式東歐和俄羅斯產的汽車，
形狀獨特，深深吸引我的目光。
那些國家的文化，融入各種汽車的形狀，很有意思。
但是現在世界上的汽車外觀都很相似，沒有了個性，
很難讓我再湧起當年對格式汽車的熱愛了。

建ちならぶビルが道に影をおとしている。
忙しい都会の中でビルの影も
刻々とその姿を変えていく。
日が昇ればその姿をあらわし
日が暮れると一日の仕事を終える。
都会の中でひっそりと影は生き続けている。

Buildings in line create shadow on the street.
The shape of shadow changes over time in the busy city,
minute by minute, hour by hour.
When the sun rises, shadow shows up.
When night falls, shadow finishes its work.
Shadow is living amongst us in the city sliently.

Les immeubles qui se succèdent créent de l’ombre sur la route.
Dans la ville qui ne dort jamais, l’ombre des immeubles
changent au fil du temps, heures après heures.
Quand le soleil se lève, il les fait apparaitre.
Quand le soleil se couche, il met fin à la journée de travail.
Dans la ville, les ombres continuent de vivre silencieusement.

昔 チューリップのことを
ぼたんゆりと言っていたそうだ
たしかに ぼたんとゆりの
感じがチューリップにはある。
ぼたんとゆりを大胆にとばして
空間の面白さが出るような
世界を作ってみた。

"Peony lily" is an alternate name for tulip in the old time.
Certainly there are some common characters between tulip and peony or lily.
I drew some peony and lily adventurously to create a spacious and unique space.

木の板を彫刻刀で彫る。
それに色をぬって和紙に刷る。
色の数だけ 板が必要だが
描いたものと違う味わいが
出て面白い。
今、やる人が少ない木版だが
浮世絵のように
日本が誇る技法のひとつだ。

Carve a wooden board, put color on it and print on washi paper.
Every color needs a single board.
Woodblock printing gives a distinctive feel,
which is very different from drawings.
Even though we are continuing to lose it,
the wood block printing, like the Ukiyo-e,
is still one of the Japanese traditional techniques.

Je grave au ciseau une planche de bois.
J’y appose de la couleur et je l’imprime sur du washi.
La planche est utile seulement pour les couleurs mais
cela donne un rendu intéressant, différent des dessins.
Aujourd’hui, peu de personnes l’utilisent mais
elle fait partie, à l’instar du Ukiyo-e,
des techniques traditionnelles japonaises.

クローバーの日本名で
花は長い茎の先に
白いぼんぼりのような花をつける
それを編んで 首飾りや
髪飾りを作って
女の子達は楽しんでいる
今はあまり 見かけないが…

Japanese call trifolium repens as white clover.
They produces white flowers at the end of a tall stalk.
Girls enjoying braiding them into clover crowns and accessories.
However, it's not a usual sight these days.

Nom japonais du célèbre trèfle,
sa fleur posée au bout d’une longue tige,
a des airs de lanternes en papier traditionnelles.
Les jeunes filles japonaises s’amusent à les tresser
pour en faire des colliers ou des couronnes.
Ce tableau est très rare de nos jours…

白詰草是三葉草的日本名，
長長的花莖頂端，
綻放白色球狀的花。
小女孩們將它摘下，

“かごめ編み 平成3年”
竹を編んだものを昔はいろいろなものに使っていた。
籠にして物を収納したり
バッグとして持ち歩いたりしていた。
天井、壁面などにも使われていた。
しっかり編みこまれていて丈夫。
自然素材なので、使っているうちに色も深みを加え
つやが出てきて美しくなってくる。
竹は日本の気候、風土に合っていて
日本人の感性にも訴えかけてくるものがある。

Weaved bamboo (1991, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
In old days people weaved bamboo into many things -
weaved a basket to store things,
weaved a bag to carry around.
Bamboo were also used for ceiling and surface of wall,
they were firmly weaved and were solid enough.
As a natural material, the color will be deeper
and lustre comes out as time passes.
Bamboo suits the climate of Japan,
and also matches the sensibility of people living in this country.

Tressage Kagome (1991, par Katsuji Wakisaka)
Autrefois, le bambou était tressé pour créer des objets.
Parfois utilisé pour les récoltes sous forme de panier,
Parfois utilisé pour se promener sous forme de sac.
Il était même utilisé pour la confection des plafond ou des murs.
Une fois bien tressé, il est très résistant.
Étant une matière première naturelle, on peut l’embellir
en la polissant ou la peignant.
Il est adapté au temps et aux températures japonaises,
et il correspond à la sensibilité japonaise.

竹編的物件，自古就被廣汎使用於日常生活中。
編成竹籠用來收納，
編成竹包携帶裝物，

絵具皿にチューブから色を出してまぜ合せる。

素敵な色を見ると
人はそれだけで魅かれていく。

By squeezing paints from tubes, and mixing several colors together
I make a nice combination of colors.
When I could make beautiful color combinations,
those would bring a clear picture in my head.
They have power to rouse people's emotions.
Nice colors attracts people at first sight.

Palette de peinture (1995, par Katsuji Wakisaka)
Je mets des peintures sur une palette et je les mélange.
Je mélange une multitude de couleur et je créé des couleurs.
Créer ces nouvelles couleurs suffit à se faire une image globale.
Les couleurs font appel aux sentiments.
En regardant simplement de magnifiques couleurs,
l’homme peut être totalement fasciné.

把各色顔料擠在調色盤上，
自由混合幾種，調出新色。
偶然調出好看的顔色，
眼前即浮現出想繪之畫面。
人哦，
只看一眼可愛的顔色，
就被之吸引，爲之着迷。

“版画 平成4年”
木版に彫刻刀で花や葉をほっていく。
間には線を入れて表情を出していく。
版画は筆とは違った
シャープな線が持ち味だ。
この絵もなんとなく版画の様に
民芸調の面白さが出た。

With a carving knife in hand,
chisel flowers and leaves out of a piece of wood.
Woodblock print features sharp image lines.
This textile design is somehow similar to woodblock print,
with the appearance of handmade fork craft style.

Gravure(1994, par Katsuji Wakisaka)
Je grave sur bois des fleurs et des feuilles avec un ciseau à bois.
Entre ces motifs, j’ai inséré des fils pour en augmenter la physionomie.
La gravure est différente de l’estampe.
Les traits incisifs sont l’archétype du Soi.
À l’image de la gravure, je trouve que ce dessin retranscrit plutôt bien
l’originalité de l’art populaire.

版畫(1994, 脇阪 克二)
在木頭上用雕刻刀刻繪出花和葉，
再于其間加入綫條，勾繪出生動的神韻。
版畫與毛筆畫不同，
綫條風格剛硬，畫面中有「刀的味道」。
我畫的這張圖案，
綫條如版畫，輪廓鮮明，
散發民藝風的和之趣味。

“きざし 平成12年”
まだ冬の寒い日、
野の山も凍りついている。
こんな時にふきのとうは芽を出す。
ふきのとうだけではなく
よく見ると凍てついた大地の
そこかしこに芽を出そうとする
植物が動き出している。
冬来たりなば春遠からじというように
春のきざしが顔をのぞかせはじめている。

Signs of spring(2000, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
A cold day of winter
hills and fields are still frozen.
On this season Fukinotou (Petasites japonicus) put out its bud.
Not only Fukinotou -
if you look closely, many plants are ready to come up
from the freezing ground everywhere.
“If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?”
Sings of spring are here and there.

Signes et présages(2000, par Katsuji Wakisaka)
Dans les jours encore froid de l’hiver,
les champs des montagnes sont encore gelés.
Le pétasite du Japon commence à germer en cette période
Pas seulement le pétasite, on peut voir d’autres plantes
qui essaient de sortir de la terre froide et solidifiée.
Comme le veut l’adage « Si vient l'hiver, le printemps peut-il être loin ? »,
des signes de l’arrivée du printemps commencent à pointer.

時為冬末，
野外山中天寒地坼，
款冬花莖卻冒出嫩芽。
細看會發現發芽的不止款冬，
寒霜凛凛中，
各種植物都在萌發。
“冬來春不遠”，
處處充滿春天來臨的徵兆。
