“芍薬（しゃくやく） 昭和56年”
丸く張った つぼみは コロンとして
いて かわいい。
時と共に固く とじたつぼみは
恥じらうように 少しずつ開きはじめる。
そして一気に大きく開花する。
開花すると 牡丹の様に
あでやかな姿に変身する。

Suddenly, they burst into bloom all at once,

“離宮 平成元年”
天皇や貴族のために
建てられたものだが
別荘として使われていた。
皇居とか宮殿のような
格式の高さはないかもしれないが
隅々まで個人的な趣味で
作り込まれている。
今の時代にはとても作れない。

"Rikyū / Imperial villa"（1989,by Katsuji Wakisaka）
Rikyū was built for the emperor and the nobilities as a villa.
Maybe it doesn't have the grandeur of the palace,
But there is an individual beauty,
Though which you can know about the architect who built them.
For this, hardly did I think it possible to build rikyū in the modern age.

Édifiée pour l'empereur et la noblesse,
La villa servait de résidence secondaire.
Elle ne possède pas la grandeur du palais
impérial ou des palais et châteaux européens.
Cependant, elle est construite entièrement
en fonction de goûts personnels.
Impossible à produire de nos jours…

離宮是爲日本天皇或貴族所建的別墅。
雖然並不像皇居或宮殿一般高貴氣派，
但它的設計細節融入了很多獨特的個人風格。
這樣的建築是當今時代難以創造的。

どんな葉っぱに会えるだろう。
木の実やどんぐり、栗もあればいいな。

自分を探すために森に来ているのかもしれない。

Allons dans la forêt. Mais quelles feuilles allons-nous rencontré? J'espère qu'il y aura des noix, des glands et aussi des châtaignes. En faisant la rencontre d'une multide de choses, nous sommes peut être venus dans la forêt pour nous chercher nous-mêmes.

和菓子を見ていると思わずため息が出る。
そぎおとされたシンプルな形の中に
その花の特徴や季節の風、
情感が包みこまれている。
日々の暮らしの中で忘れていた日本の美しさが
こんな小さな世界から心をとらえてくる。

I’m always relieved to see wagashi.
Feature of a flower, wind of seasons and emotions of people,
All appear in the simple and clean shape.
Wagashi represent beauty of Japan which is fading away,

能や狂言の衣装、小袖などの着物の模様。
刺繍や辻ヶ花などの技法で表現された花々。
昔の人が生きていた雅な世界をたどりながら
今の時代を表現しようと試みる。

"Fūga / Elegance"（1983,by Katsuji Wakisaka）
These flowers are often seen in the traditional costumes of Noh and Kyogen, or the kimono with short sleeves.
They are represented by techniques of embroidery or Tsujigahana(stitch-resist tie-dyeing).
I tried to maintaining the Elegance crated by our ancestors, and express it in a modern way.

Les motifs des costumes de théâtre nō et de kyōgen, ou encore des kimonos à manches courtes.
Les fleurs représentées via des techniques de broderies ou de Tsujigahana, méthode de teinture sur fond blanc.
Nous avons essayé de reproduire notre époque en s'inspirant du monde raffiné dans lequel vivaient nos aïeux.
En conservant cette élégance...

青い空に筆でさっさっと描いたような白い雲が並んでいる。
澄んだその空を見上げていると、
今自分が感じている悩みや考えていることが、
何ともちっぽけなことかと思えてくる。
自然はいつも僕たちを解放してくれる。

Looking up to the bright sky,
All our problems and anxiety become so slight.

“わた雲 平成4年”
梅雨があけて久しぶりの青空が顔を出した。
空にはふんわりとしたわた菓子のような雲が浮かんでいる。
雨が続いて滅入っていた気持ちも晴れて、
心がのんびりしてくる。ぼんやり見ていた雲が、
だんだんいろんなものに見えてきて、
花がポッカリと浮かんでいるように見えてくる。

The rainy season closes and the blue sky shows.
Clouds stand out against the blue,
Soft as cotton candies and white as the snow.
Cotton candy clouds,
They dispel my gloom and filled me with rapture.
Then they start turning into different forms,
Fragrance of cotton candies hanging in the air.

La pluie cesse et le ciel bleu montre son visage.
Dans le ciel flotte des nuages en forme d'îles flottantes.
La pluie continue de tomber et la déprime s'envole à son tour, allégeant nos cœurs.
Les nuages que nous regardions d'un air distrait
Commencent à prendre différentes formes
Et ressemblent de plus en plus à des parterres de fleurs.

水たまりに雨がおちてぴちぴちとびはねる
水たまりでちゃぷちゃぷと子どもたちが遊んでいる。
ぴちぴち ちゃぷちゃぷ らんらんらん。

“路地 平成6年”
今日はお茶会。
門をくぐり路地に入る。
両側の植えこみには竹やいろんな
種類の木が目を楽しませてくれる。
打ち水された敷石を歩んで
角を曲がると一面が苔でおおわれている。
足元も飛び石になっていて
心地よいリズムで気持が茶室へと向っていく。

Tea ceremony is held today.
Entering the courtyard through the door,
feeling pleasant over the greens of bamboo hedges on two sides.
Wetted gritty stones stretch ahead,
Moss at the corner leaps into the sight.
Step on a row of flat step stones,
Ambling towards the teahouse.

Aujourd'hui est prévu un ochakai, discussions et échanges autour d'un thé
Je passe sous une porte et rentre dans une ruelle.
Dans les pots de chaque côté, des bambous et toutes sortes d'arbres illuminent le chemin.
Je marche sur ses pavés détrempés et en tournant au coin de la ruelle,
Une façade recouverte de mousses apparaît.
Le chemin a laissé place à des pierres de gué
Qui mène, d'un rythme paisible, mon cœur droit vers le salon de thé.

緑がゆれている。

A velour texture, and singularly shaped petals.

A flower with an intense personality.
She is not only beautiful,

“SO-SU-U 平成7年”
世界中で広く使われているアラビア数字は
シンプルで国籍、性別、年令などを問わない
普遍性を備えています。
記号としてよく出来ていて、
しかも愛着のもてる形をしています。
デザインする時むつかしいかなと思ったのは、
どこにでもある形なのでどこまで魅力的に
出来るかということでした。

Arabic numerals that are used worldwide are very simple, and transcend nationality, gender and age.
They are very well designed symbols and are even cute as shapes.
The challenge I experienced with this textile was since these are symbols you see everywhere, how I could transform them into an attractive form.

Les chiffres arabes qui sont utilisés à travers le monde sont très simples, et transcendent la nationalité, le sexe et l’âge.
Ce sont des symboles très bien conçus et leurs formes sont même mignonnes.
Le défi auquel j’ai été confronté avec ce textile était de savoir comment transformer ces symboles que l’on voit partout en des formes attrayantes.

全世界廣泛使用的數字
不分國籍、性別、年齡
簡單又具有普遍性
除了作爲方便使用的計數符號
形狀輪廓也十分具有親和力

東ヨーロッパの民族衣装。
白いブラウスとスカートに
色鮮かな草花の刺繍が
ほどこされている。
厳しい暮らしの中
日々のささやかなしあわせを願って
一針一針さしていったものだろう。
人々の素朴な気持が伝わってくる。

筆でいきおいよくくるくると描く。
かしゃかしゃかしゃと花を描く。
ちょんちょんと筆をおいて
つぼみに見えるかなあ。
軽快に茎を描いていく。
花が舞い、つぼみは回り
くるくるくるりんと踊りはじめる。

“下描き 平成8年”
テキスタイルデザインをつくる時
あまり下書きはしない。
でも時々ラフな絵を描いて
その上に筆で描くことがある。
下書きは楽な気持で描くので
素顔の自分が出るかもしれない。

“畳 昭和55年”
畳の機能性と美しさには
素晴らしいものがある。
あの足触りの気持よさ
坐っても寝ころんでも適度の
やわらかさと固さがある。
藺草(いぐさ)という植物から
作られていて湿度の高い
日本の気候に順応し
夏は涼しく冬は暖かい。
新しい畳のにおいはすがすがしく
気持がひきしまる。
僕は畳の表面の細かい模様も好きなので
そのイメージでつくりました。

“雪 平成11年”
雪 1999年
ひとつひとつの雪片は信じられない様なきれいな結晶から出来ていて、それが空から舞い降りてくる。
その雪の白さが夜の闇の深さを感じさせ、身も心も吸い込まれていきそうな幻想的な世界へいざなってくれる。

“とり 平成11年”
とり 1999年
鳥が群れになって飛んでいる。上になり下になり前になり後ろになって飛んでいる。時にはいっせいに方向を変えながら…。
規則的に並んでいるわけではないけれど無心に整然と飛んでいる姿は美しい。
