Motifs Meibutsugire is a kind of fabric which stands the test of time,
featuring objects with an enduring history, interesting motifs and colours.
These motifs are the results of continuous enrichment of
some patterns that I have in mind.

Helmet (2023, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
For Busho (warlords), the battlefield is where
they stake their lives and truly live for themselves.
As it were, standing in the spotlight on grand stage.
Helmets have been designed by each warlord
to stand out and overwhelm their enemies,
competing to create distinctive and overpowering pieces.
Even today, they possess astonishing power and
are remarkably impressive.
They are not only valuable as works of art
but also exquisitely beautiful.

流行歌謡のことだが
「現代風、現代的」という
意味で使われる

"Imayō" was originally written during the Heian period
and gained popularity during the Kamakura period
as a trend of popular songs.
It is now used to mean "modern and contemporary",
fitting perfectly with the cute yet
modern image of this pattern.

携帯電話のテンキーをある一定の法則に基づいて打つと「サンガ」になる記号。
サッカーボール・京・椿の花をイメージした紋、
そしてSOU・SOUの家紋。
京都サンガFCにまつわるいろいろな要素を紋にして
デザインしました。

A code that forms the word "SANGA" when you press the keys
on a cell phone's numeric keypad according to a certain pattern.
The design incorporates elements related to KYOTO SANGA F.C,
a professional soccer club based in Kyoto,
such as a soccer ball, the character "京" (Kyoto),
camellia flowers, and also the family crest of SOU・SOU.

この“ちゃりんちゃりん”の様になる。
でも目の前にある自転車を見て描くと
こんな楽しい自転車は描けず、
実につまらない写実的なものになってしまう。

I am not good at sketching.
For example, when I try to draw a bicycle based on the image in my head,

きっとそういう気持なんだろうと思う。

昔の子供はよく竹とんぼを自分で作って遊んだものだ。
ちょっとした削り方や力具合で飛び方が全然変わってしまうので、
子供の創造力を伸ばすにはもってこいのおもちゃだった。
時代は変わったが、竹とんぼの風情みたいなものは残ってほしいものだ。

Children used to make their own bamboo dragonflies and play with them.
They were great toys for developing children's creativity,
as the way they flew changed depending on how the bamboo were sharpened and how hard they were spun.

表面はザラリとしていてパリッと固く

京都の和菓子の世界は奥が深い。
京都生まれの僕も
今でも全く知らなかったお菓子に出会う。
それが歴史があり
個性的な味わい深いものなので

The surface is rough, crispy and hard.
The texture inside is soft and
has a unique mouth feel when chewed.
Kohakutou amber candy has a light,
elegant sweetness that spreads in the mouth.
The world of Kyoto's wagashi is really deep.
Even now, as a Kyoto native,
I still encounter sweets that I had no idea about.
I am surprised to find that
they have a long history and
are unique and rich in nuance.

なっているところがある。

堆積物があり、幾重にも
層をなして積み重なっている。
それを調べるとそれぞれの時代に
何が起ったかわかるようだ。
人も地層のように先祖の人々が
生きてきた歴史があり
その上に自分がある。
それを大切にして生きていくことが
自分を生かしていくことにつながってくる。

There are places where the strata are exposed, like cliffs.
There are many different types of sediments from different period,
and they eventually piled up in layers through the years.
It seems that by examining them,
they can tell us what happened in each period.
People, like strata, have a history that
their ancestors have lived through
and on which they are based.
Living with this in mind
will help us to make the most of ourselves.

Il y a des endroits comme les falaises
où les strates qui la composent sont mises à nue.
Au fil du temps, les sédiments se déposent et forment
un empilement de couches.

planted with various types of trees that serve also as a delightful shade.

which are small and simple, have a different feel.
Some are bright, some are pitch-dark,
some have people moving about,
and each has its own way of life.
Every house has the warmth of a home,
and the flow of time are peaceful and calm.
