“糸取り 平成7年”
いろんな色の糸を縦に張った中に
別の色を斜めにからめていく。
色が微妙にまじりあって
女性が好きな世界だなあと思う。
糸とか布、織や染、縫物などに
女の人は魅かれるようですね。
昔、糸を紡ぎ、布を織っていたころの
記憶が心の中に眠っているのでしょうか。

Thread Spinning (1995, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
Various colored threads are strung vertically,
with other different colors intertwined diagonally.
The colors are subtly blended together,
which I think they formed a world that women like.
Women seem to be attracted to thread, cloth, weaving, dyeing and stitching.
Perhaps memories of when they used to spin thread and
weave cloth lie dormant in their hearts.

Tandis que des fils de différentes couleurs sont étirées verticalement,
Une autre couleur est entrelacée en diagonale.
Les couleurs subtilement mélangées,
Forment un monde que les femmes aiment particulièrement.
Elles semblent être attirées par les fils, les tissus,
le tissage, la couture, la teinture.
Les souvenirs d’un passé, où elles avaient l’habitude de filer et
de tisser des étoffes, sommeillent peut-être encore dans leurs coeurs.

各色紗線縱向展開
再將不同色彩的紗線以斜行方式交錯
所有顏色巧妙地交融在一起
我想這或許是女性喜歡的世界吧
紗線和布料，染織和縫紉等
對女性來說似乎有很大吸引力
從前，紡紗與織布的記憶
是否一直沉睡在內心深處

“縞がさね 平成18年”
無心になって線を引いていく。等間隔にひいていくと縞になる。
あるところまで来ると少し間を空けた線をひいていくと別の縞が出来る。
そして又、違った縞が出来、縞がさねとなった。

Layered Stripes (2006, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
I draw lines without thinking anything.
If the lines are drawn at equal intervals, they will form stripes.
When I get to a certain point, I start to draw lines with less space in between,
and another striped pattern is formed.
By repeating this, new stripes are formed and they become the layered-stripes.

Rayures à répétition (2006 par Katsuji Wakisaka)
Après avoir fait le vide, je trace un trait.
À intervalles réguliers, ces traits deviennent des rayures.
Au bout d’un certain moment, je trace des traits avec un espacement
un peu plus grand, résultant en un type de rayure différent.
Puis une autre, puis une autre… Des rayures à répétition.

“わたぼうし 平成20年”
道端や草むらのどこででも見かけるわたぼうし。
たんぽぽが咲いた後、
種を遠くへ飛ばすために、ふわふわした球体をつくる。
ふーっと吹くとワーっと風にのって飛んでいく。
かわいい形だけれど、宇宙的ですらある。
こんなに美しく機能的なものを、
とても人間はつくれない。

Dandelion Parachutes (2008, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
Dandelion Parachutes can be found on roadside or in the grass.
After they bloom,
they form a fluffy spheres to let the seeds fly far away.
With a blow, they fly lightly with the wind.
They look cute, but thay are very cosmic.
It is impossible for us to make
such a beautiful and functional thing.

Une boule de coton que l’on voit un peu partout
Sur les chemins et dans les bosquets.
Une fois sa fleur éclose,
Le pissenlit forme une boule duveteux
Pour répandre au plus loin ses graines.
Elles se laissent porter par le vent qui souffle.
Elles sont très mignonnes mais aussi mystérieuses.
Impossible pour l’homme de créer une chose
Aussi fonctionnelle et magnifique à la fois.

路邊或草叢裡隨處可見的蒲公英
爲了讓風把種子帶去遠方，長出毛絨絨的小球
鼓起嘴，用勁一吹，滿眼小降落傘隨風飛舞
這可愛的形狀，是宇宙創造的小小奇跡
如此自然且充滿機能性設計的美
實在難以出自人類之手

“かんしゃく玉 平成26年”
直径1cmぐらいの丸い玉を
地面にたたきつける。
バンッという音とともに
玉が破裂する。
とても単純な遊びだが
かんしゃく玉を投げあって遊ぶのは
楽しかった。

which is around 1cm in diameter on the ground.
The ball bursts with a bang.
It is a very simple game,
but it was fun to throw them at each other.

d’environ 1 cm de diamètre
que l’on jette au sol.
Elles éclatent en claquant.

天に向かって枝がまっすぐ伸びていて、すがすがしい。
その枝に紅や白の、花や蕾が歯切れよく並んでいる。
梅は冬の寒さの中で清く潔く咲き、凛として美しい。

The branches grow straight up towards the sky and they look very refreshing.
Red and white flowers and their buds are arranged nicely and vigorously on the branches.
Plum trees bloom cleanly and gracefully in the cold of winter, dignified and beautiful.

Pruniers à fleurs rouges et blanches (2005 par Katsuji Wakisaka)
Pointées vers le ciel, ses branches s’étendent toutes droites.
Quel spectacle rafraichissant!
Sur ses branches, des fleurs et des bourgeons rouges et blancs
sont remarquablement alignées.
Les pruniers, fleurissant plein de vigueur en plein coeur de l’hiver,
sont l’image même de la beauté.

日本の家紋を見ていくとふっと目をひく紋があり、
それを描いてみる。
縞や市松などを加えて一枚の絵にしていく。
そんな絵がたくさん出来た時、
何げなく並べてみたら思いがけず
面白かったのがこの文様あそび。

When looking at Japanese family crests,
there are crests that suddenly catch my eye and I try to draw them.
I combine them with stripes, checkers, etc. to make a drawing.
When many such drawings were created,
I casually arranged them in a row and
found it became a playful pattern unexpectedly.

Quand je regarde des sceaux familiaux japonais,
il m’arrive d’en trouver un qui accroche mon regard
et que je décide alors de dessiner.
En y rajoutant des franges ou des damiers,
j’en arrive à un dessin final.
Ce design de jeu de motifs
est le savant mélange d’une multitude de ces dessins.

It is not always good to make something that was made in desperate efforts,
and sometimes I think it is more interesting to make things lightly and casually.

作られた

今も城は美しく独特の形で
人々を魅了している

Japanese castles were built to
defend themselves against enemy attacks.
Later, they became a showed sign of
one's authority at home and abroad.
Castles remind the period in which they were built
and the qualities and taste of the warrior who built them.
Castles still fascinate people today
with their beauty and unique forms.

Il a été construit pour
défendre les châteaux
des attaques ennemies.
Il est devenu naturellement par la suite
une marque de puissance aux alentours et bien au-delà.
Quand on regarde un château, on aime à imaginer
sa période d’édification ou bien
les qualités de son commandant militaire.
Même maintenant, ces forteresses fascinent toujours
autant les gens de part leur majesté et leur unicité.

女の人は糸と針と布で
何かをつくっていくのが好きですね。
端切れを選んでつぎはぎした布で
バッグや小物をつくる。
こういうことをしていると
気持が落ち着いてくるのでしょう。
気持のいい時を過していると
元気がわいてきます。

世界中、人が住んでいるところには
文様がある。
その国の、その地方にしかない
独特のものがある。
文様を見るだけで
その国のあり方や文化を想像させる。
しかし古い時代の文様には
世界に似たものがある。
それらは単純で抽象的な文様で
力強くたくましい。
文様の原点にあたるものだろう。

In the world, there are patterns wherever people live.
Some are very unique and
can only be created by certain countries or regions.
Just by looking at the patterns,
people can imagine how things are going
in that country and its culture.
However, there are patterns from ancient times
that are similar to those in the rest of the world.
They are simple, abstract patterns that are powerful and strong.
I think they are probably the origin of the patterns.

墨のあとも鮮かに
一気にまっすぐに筆を走らせる。
筆はサインペンや鉛筆と違って
その人の感じやその日の気分が
隠しようもなくあらわれる。
気の持ち方を変えて書くと
又違った感じになる。
筆と墨の表現は
なかなか微妙で奥が深い。

The brush strokes are vivid and
straight at once.
Unlike marker pens or pencils,
the brush shows the writer’s feeling and the mood of the day
in a way that cannot be hided.
Writing in a different mood
also gives a different feeling.
The expressions of the brush and ink
are subtle and pretty deep.

ふと立ちどまって じっと耳をすます
後足だけで立ち上がって遠くを見る
と思うと 又 一目散にかけていく
そして 野原に じっと うずくまる
うさぎは いろんな様子が
かわいいですね
うさぎ年が
幸多き一年でありますように！！

Running through the fields and mountains lightly and swiftly.
Suddenly, they stand still and listen carefully.
They stand up on the their rear foot only and
gaze into the distance, then run off again.
And then they crouches down in the the field.
Rabbits are so cute in many different ways.
May the Year of the Rabbit be a happy one!

Courir avec agilité à travers champs et montagnes
S’arrêter soudain et dresser ses oreilles attentivement
Se tenir sur ses pattes arrières et regarder au loin
Se déplacer à nouveau à toute vitesse et rester accroupi dans les champs.
En y repensant, le lapin, dans ces diverses situations,
est vraiment adorable.
Que l’année du lapin soit
une année riche en bonheur de toute sorte.

“あかつき 昭和51年”
空が序々に明かるさをましている。
真暗だった闇が白みはじめ
オレンジ色の輝きが加わりはじめる。
ふと気がつくと、ついさっきまでの
大空全体の闇は消滅している。
一瞬の出来事だった様な気がする。

The sky is gradually becoming brighter.
The darkness that was pitch-black begins to be brighten by white glows,
and then the orange glows had joined.
Suddenly I realise that the darkness of
the whole sky has vanished.

“組ひも 令和4年”
仏教伝来とともに
仏具等の飾りひもとして渡来した
以来 礼服や武具 茶道具や
帯締めなどとして 用いられてきた
現在でも 新たな用途に
組ひもは使われている
細いものだが しっかり作られていて
丈夫で美しい
日本の装いやしつらいなどを
美しく引き締める要の役割を
果たしている

Braided Strings (2022, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
Since their arrival in Japan
as decorative cords with the introduction of Buddhism,
braided strings have been used in ceremonial dresses, armours,
tea ceremony utensils and obijime for kimono.
Even today, braided strings are used for different new purposes.
They are thin but well-made,
strong and beautiful,
and play an important role in
bracing and tightening the beauty of
Japanese attire and interior.

Fils tressés (2022, par Katsuji Wakisaka)
Cette technique a été importée pour la décoration d’autels
avec l’introduction du bouddhisme sur l’archipel.
Dès lors, ces cordelettes ont été utilisées sur des vêtements,
des armes, des ustensiles pour le thé
ou bien en soutient placées au dessus du obi (ceinture de kimono).
Même de nos jours, ces fils tressés
ont été adaptés à de nouveaux usages.
La tresse est fine mais, réalisée dans les règles de l'art,
elle s’avère résistante et élégante.
Elle joue un rôle très important dans la beauté
des parures et du mobilier japonais.

作為佛具裝飾的編繩也一同被引進
自此之後 儀式服裝或武器
茶道用具或和服腰帶繫繩等 都能看到編繩的蹤影

其形狀細長 製作精良
堅固又美觀
無論在日本服裝或室內裝飾等
都扮演了凝聚美學的關鍵角色

“満天の星 昭和53年”
ニューヨークに住んでいたころ
郊外の山の中の友人宅を訪ねた。
夜になって帰ろうと外へ出ると
耳をおおう様な虫の鳴き声と
とても星がいっぱい輝いていて
空が落ちてくるのではないかと思った。
あんな星空はあの夜見たきりだが
ああいうのを満天の星というのだろう。
今でもあの夜の星空は
時々話題にのぼる。

Star-filled Sky (1978, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
When I was living in New York,
I visited a friend's house in the mountains outside the city.
When I went outside to go home at night,
I heard an ear-piercing chirp of insects and
saw so many stars shining brightly,
that made me feel that the sky was going to fall.
I have never seen such a starry sky since that night,
but I guess this is what can be called a "star-filled sky".
Even now, I sometimes talk about that night's starry sky.

Ciel rempli d’étoiles (1978 par Katsuji Wakisaka)
Lorsque j’habitais à New-York,
J’ai visité mon ami qui vivait dans les montagnes alentours.
Le soir venu, en sortant pour rentrer chez moi,
J’ai eu l’impression que le ciel allait me tomber dessus
Tant le chant des insectes était bruyant
et le ciel était constellé d’étoiles.
Plus jamais je n’ai revu un tel ciel nocturne mais
J’imagine que c’est ce qu’on appelle un ciel rempli d’étoiles.
Aujourd’hui encore, je raconte encore de temps en temps
La beauté de cette soirée et de son ciel étoilé.

以前住在紐約時
曾造訪友人位於郊外山中的家
到了夜晚準備回家 走出戶外
耳邊傳來各式各樣的蟲鳴聲
天空閃爍著漫天星星
彷彿要墜落般耀眼
之後我再也沒見過如此絕美的星空
我想那就是所謂的滿天星斗吧
而即使到了現在 也常會聊起
那夜的星空

いつも作品を拝見させていただいています。
自分は北海道の「オンネトー」という湖のキャンプ場で、これぞ「満天の星」と言える星空を観ました。
でも…星が多過ぎて、返って「怖い」くらいでした… (キャンプ場は自分1人しかいなかったので、そのこともあるのかもしれませんが…)その時のことが忘れられず…心に残っています。
これからもたくさん作品を描いてくださいね♪

“麻の葉 平成19年”
昔から日本の模様に麻の葉をデザイン化したものがあり、
染模様として愛されてきた。
それは連続していく模様だけれど、
ここではバラバラにして花のようにしてみた。

There is an old Japanese design of hemp leaves,
which has been loved as a dye pattern.
It is a continuous pattern,
but I tried to break it up into pieces to make it look like a flower.

Feuille de chanvre (2007 par Katsuji Wakisaka)
Depuis toujours au Japon, la feuille de chanvre est utilisée comme motif, très apprécié en teinture.
Il s’agit ici du même motif, que j’ai cependant dispersé à l’image d’une fleur.

自古以來「麻葉」就是日本的傳統紋樣，
也是人們喜愛的一種染織花紋。
我將傳統麻葉印花連續不斷的設計拆解開來，
變幻為一幅散落的花模樣。

僕が小さいころ
女性はよくあみものをしていた。
太い木の針を持って
毛糸の玉をころがしながら
ひと目ひと目あんでいった。
無心にあんでいる人のまわりには
静かな時が流れていた。
今、人はそんな時間を
持つことが出来ているのだろうか。

Knitting Pattern (2004, by Katsuji Wakisaka)
In my childhood,
women used to do a lot of knitting.
They took thick wooden knitting needles,
rolling the wool yarn balls and
knitted with every single stitch.
Quiet time passed around the person
who was knitting without thinking.
I wonder if people nowadays
have such a time to do so.

Crochet (2004 par Katsuji Wakisaka)
Dans mon enfance,
les femmes faisaient beaucoup de tricot.
Elles prenaient de grosses aiguilles de bois
roulant les pelotes de laine
tressant maille par maille.
Ce temps apaisant passé auprès de ces personnes
qui tricotaient sans réfléchir.
Je me demande si de nos jours,
les gens auraient autant de temps pour le faire.

在我小時候
女性編織是很普遍的事
拿著木製棒針
一邊滾著毛線球
一針一針地打著毛線
在心無旁鶩編織的人周圍
時間彷彿靜靜流過
現在的人們是否還能有如此
緩慢悠閒的時光呢
